One of them has 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD (costs 2700€), the other has 32 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD (costs 2900€). My use case: I’m a software engineer and have to use multiple IDEs (mostly IntelliJ and CLion) and Docker regularly at the same time. On my current machine, this costs me about 12-13 GB RAM.

More ram isn't going to help with that though when playing a demanding game on an 8 year old quad core I can guarantee your cpu will be the bottleneck vs ram - you should be able to browse a couple of tabs while running that game on a more recent system. 16gb should be plenty unless you're rendering between matches or something ridiculous like that.
Note that gaming laptops need at least 16 GB of RAM to run the most famous and heavy games smoothly. You won’t need to compromise on the performance and graphics with the said size of the RAM. It further points toward the fact that laptops with less than 16 GB of RAM do not deserve the tag of “Gaming Laptops.”
Solution. #2. ebrahim123 : So I'm making a new build but ram seems to be the biggest problem. I'm thinking of getting 1 stick of 16 gb of ram because two sticks of 8 is much more expensive. But I want to know how much I will be losing on. General snappiness of opening up folders and somewhat longer startup times.
Let's be honest, Corsair is the kings of high-performance, good-looking gaming RAM. And the Dominator sub-brand has been at the top for years, for good reason. We recommend a minimum of 16GB

With 16 GB RAM, players can be confident that their system can handle these updates and provide an optimal gaming experience. Overall, 16 GB RAM offers a significant advantage for Fortnite gameplay, delivering smoother performance, improved multitasking capabilities, and the ability to handle future game updates effectively.

A 32GB RAM is the best for gaming. 3200MHz RAM and 3600MHz RAM have a capacity of up to 64GB. Hence, it is perfect for gaming. However, it would help if you considered the latency. Remember, the lower the latency of the RAM, the better the performance. Hence 3200MHz RAM has more latency, which is very good for gaming activities. tNTh.
