The new OEM tensioner is a different design than the old tensioner. The pulley is also smaller on the new tensioner. My car was squealing upon cold startup and I originally bought a new belt but the squeal was still present so I figured it was either the idler or tensioner pulley since both bearings were shot.
2:39. Attach a 15mm socket and ratchet to the serpentine belt tensioner. Turn the tensioner clockwise to loosen the belt. Pull the belt off the tensioner. Pull the belt off the other pulleys. step 4 :Removing the A/C Belt Tensioner. 3:14. Remove the five 15mm bolts from the skid plate. Pull off the skid plate.
Your serpentine belt is like one giant, fast-spinning rubber band. And, like a rubber band, it must maintain a balance of flexibility and tension. Most tensioners feature an internal spring and pulley, which applies needed force against the serpentine belt to keep it tight. If there is not enough tension, a belt can slip, squeal or run hot. These belts have an elastic core that is designed to keep tension on the pulleys. Stretch belts are designed to stretch over one of the pulleys during installation, usually the crank or the largest pulley. Never use a screwdriver or other sharp object to install the belt because if the belt is cut or the surface or grooves of the pulleys are

Insert your belt through the left-side loops first. Take the end of your belt, and begin inserting it into your belt loops with the loop on the front left side of your pants. Thread the belt end through each loop, pulling the belt through as you go. Once you reach the last loop, buckle your belt.
Insert the 3/8 inch drive ratchet into the tensioner. Turn the tensioner clockwise to loosen the belt. Pull the belt off the alternator. Release the tensioner. Pull the belt off by hand. step 2 :Installing the Serpentine Belt. 1:37. Loop the belt around the crank pulley. Bring it around the water pump.
The belt failure can damage all these other systems, raising your repair bill exponentially. Modern cars generally use a tensioner to keep your serpentine in place and eases the replacement procedure for most models. Replacing a bent tensioner or broken pulley at the same time as the belt is always recommended to extend the life of your car. T0DV4J.
